Benfica’s winger Goncalo Guedes who has been a long term target for Manchester united manager Jose Mourinho could be on his way out of the Portuguese club with Manchester united being his preferred destination after the winger bid fans and teammates at Benfica goodbye according to reports in the Sportlens.com.
Several reports in Portuguese newspaper Record has revealed that Guedes could complete a switch to either Paris St. German or Manchester united and the player didn’t feature in Benfica’s 4-0 victory last Saturday against Tondela thereby sparking rumors that he could be nearing his Benfica exit.
However, the British media have reported that the Portuguese player has already agreed a January transfer move away from Benfica hinting that the player has already held discussions with Manchester united officials.
Manchester united have been monitoring the player’s development closely for some time with united scouts traveling to watch the winger on different occasions in the last six months while other reports also revealed that Manchester united already sent representatives to run the rule over the availability of the talented winger last year.
When asked about Goncalo Guedes, Benfica’s coach Rui Vitoria didn’t sound too convincing but he also admitted that there is no indication that Guedes would leave this January hinting that the decision was up to the club’s president.
Rui Vitoria is quoted as saying by Record:
“The coach takes decision and I decided not to play him today because there were other players and I opted to play that way. I do not know if he will leave but I believe the president knows what’s best for Goncalos”
