With Eric Bailly out of action till Christmas, Luke Shaw is hoping to step up and fight for a place in Jose Mourinho’s team. The young defender returned from injury during United’s goalless draw at Anfield but wasn’t fit to play.
He was part of the team that thrashed Fenerbache in last Thursday’s Europa league clash and also played 90 minutes in United’s victory over Manchester city on Wednesday.
Daley Blind moved to the left-back position during Shaw’s absence and now the Dutchman is ready to move back to centre-back alongside Chris Smalling and this means Luke Shaw is ready to return to his left-back position for Manchester united.
Luke Shaw is eager to impress Jose Mourinho after failing to be included in the squad that traveled to Chelsea last Sunday.
“It is normal to feel frustrated after missing such a big game but right now with Eric’s injury, it is time for me to improve and show Jose what I can do and win his trust”
Luke Shaw admitted that Eric Bailly’s injury would be a big blow for the whole team hinting that the Ivorian has been one of United’s most outstanding player this season.
“Eric is still young and he plays with so much calmness and confidence. He knows when to clear the ball and he also likes to play from the back and that is good for the team because we like to initiate attacks from the back”.
The defender admitted he struggled in the first half of Wednesday’s clash with Manchester city and hopes to improve if he gets to play against Burnley on Saturday. He said; “I didn’t play well in the first half because Jesus Navas is a very fast player so it was a bit tough for me but I improved in the second half and made sure he couldn’t cross any ball in and I felt really good. I hope to play again on Saturday and help the team get another victory”.
