Manchester united play Burnley at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon and skipper Wayne Rooney might be fit to play again but Chris Smalling is still a doubt for the clash.
Wayne Rooney missed United’s defeat at Stamford Bridge and also the red devils EFL cup victory over Manchester city after picking up a thigh injury against Turkish side Fenerbache while Chris Smalling played in the game against Chelsea but missed Wednesday’s game against Manchester city.
During Jose Mourinho’s press conference ahead of United’s game against Burnley, the Portuguese manager dismissed rumors that Wayne Rooney was heading for the exit door. Mourinho said;
“The media is free to write and say whatever they want but Rooney is a special player and very important to the team. He is happy with the team and everyone loves him and while he is unhappy to be left out of the starting eleven, he is also sad to be injured”.
“There are no issues between Wayne and the club but you (the media) love to write lies. You claim I said my life is a disaster and that’s a lie but the most important thing Wayne Rooney will return in our game against Burnley”
The manager revealed that Chris Smalling who scored twice when united hosted Burnley in 2015 is a doubt for Saturday’s game. The manager described the centre-back as a phenomenal defender hinting that the defender played the Chelsea game with an injury problem.
“Chris was phenomenal to play at Stamford Bridge in such a tough situation but he couldn’t play on Wednesday against City. It’s not a groin injury but we all have to wait till Monday to know what the problem really is”.
