Reports in the Daily mail have revealed that Manchester united defender could be on the sidelines for four weeks after several tests were conducted on his recent foot injury and discovered that his toe broke in two places.

Due to the recent development, the centre-back won’t be available for at least seven games for the red devils including premier league games against Arsenal, Tottenham, Everton and also Manchester United’s quarter final EFL clash with West Ham football club.

This will be a huge blow to Jose Mourinho whose defence has been hit by injury this season and when fit, Chris Smalling is considered when of the best centre-backs in the English premier league and also a key figure in the heart of United’s defence and that leaves the Portuguese tactician with Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind and Phil Jones as the only available options in central defence.

Chris Smalling latest injury update could also come as an embarrassment to Jose Mourinho who publicly criticized Chris Smalling and Luke Shaw after Manchester United’s victory over Swansea, questioning their commitments and dedication to the club.

Chris Smalling opted not to play for the red devils against Swansea after revealing to MUTV he wasn’t fit but Jose Mourinho criticized the act and said the defender wasn’t brave for declaring himself unfit to play.

It appears Chris Smalling’s absence from the red devils squad last weekend wasn’t a cowardly act and Jose Mourinho’s comments about Smalling’s action seems to have back-fired.

Chris Smalling was injected twice in his foot so he could feature for the red devils against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and Jose Mourinho described the defenders attitude is ‘being phenomenal’ but Chris Smalling hasn’t featured for the red devils since the defeat at Stamford Bridge and was in severe pains so he could not play in United’s victory over Swansea despite his manager asking him to.
